INNOVATIVE PAVILION

Innovative Pavilion to mark the Millennium

A garden pavilion designed to celebrate the new millennium. The brief was for a classical design that could only have been made the twentieth century. The specially-designed bronze capitals are open-topped and enclose a stainless-steel ball out of which rise tall tapering finials which support the copper dome, braced with fine wire cables. The dome appears to float, a known ambition in antiquity but here for the first time achievable with the structural design of the leading high-tech engineer, Tony Hunt.
