Art Gallery, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
The new Sands Gallery at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford was the first new picture gallery within the Ashmolean for forty years and was funded with a National Lottery grant. It houses the museums’ collection of rarely displayed twentieth century art. Windowless, it has a shallow curved ceiling which incorporates a fabric screen, diffusing ultra-violet light and protecting the exhibits. The gallery is entered through a refined Etruscan doorway.
