Surrey: major House in an Important early 20th century landscape.
The early twentieth century house on this site burnt down in 1952 but the remarkable gardens, lakes, follies and pavilions survived. This new stone house is in the approximate position of the original house, looking south down and steep bank to the lake and entered by a grand portico to the north. The natural slope created three storeys on the south side and two on the north. The significance of the south view suggested a long plan with the principal rooms facing south and the stairs and hall to the north but with a cross-hall revealing the view and marked by a three-storey bay. The house is currently being significantly extended for new owners.
