Hotel in Soho, London
The new hotel acts as a focus for an important view west from Soho Square and replaces an undistinguished 1960s building. The five-storey stone entrance front is designed as a bold statement with refined classical detailing and is flanked by simple brick facades. A large sculpture by Hew Locke sits over the main entrance. The classical details include colonettes representing the torches of dawn, and Ionic capitals with unique symbolism. The design won the Georgian Group Giles Worsley Award for New Building in a Georgian Context in 2014.
