Dorset, new riverside villa
Dorset: new villa alongside a lake and a river.
A spectacular location with different views in three directions shaped the plan of this largely single-storey house. The ‘butterfly’ plan encloses a series of intimate outside spaces that lead into the wider landscape with a river passing one side and a lake facing another. It includes a large covered outside dining and sitting terrace and an octagonal stone tower housing a billiard and dining room, which come together to create a distinctive feature on the riverside. The house is built of Portland Stone and stucco and includes specially designed column capitals for the unusual narrow columns.
